The South West Asian Football Federation (SWAFF) is a new regional association which has been created to improve the quality of football in the region’s countries.
The South West Asian Football Federation (SWAFF) is a new regional association which has been created to improve the quality of football in the region’s countries. These nations share common cultural, geographic, political, and economic links but currently lack the football facilities, training and coaching knowledge and commercial and competition experience that has enabled football to thrive in more developed football nations and regions.
SWAFF will propel the region’s footballing capabilities forward so it can compete with the rest of the world. This will help ensure that more countries in Asia qualify for the World Cup and bring forward the time that Asia can win its first World Cup.
Funding football is an investment; not a cost. SWAFF believes that football can be the hidden social worker, health care officer, teacher or community support team and an economic driver for the nations of South and West Asia.
Dr Adel Ezzat, President of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, addresses founding members.
WE WANT TO SEE MORE NATIONS FROM THE REGION REPRESENTED AT MAJOR INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL EVENTS INCLUDING THE WORLD CUP AND TO BECOME A PRESENCE IN WORLD FOOTBALL.
OUR FOUNDING MEMBERS
Following the first SWAFF General Assembly in August 2018, the founding member nations are:
OUR PLACE IN WORLD FOOTBALL — WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP
SWAFF members are also members of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) and the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF). SWAFF will operate in accordance with the statutes and regulations of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and FIFA.
We are committed to collaborating with the football federations of the region of South and West Asia, and to building capacity and capability in the nations of the region, heralding football’s new frontiers.
OUR REMIT — MEANINGFUL DEVELOPMENT FOR THE BEAUTIFUL GAME
SWAFF will provide resources, infrastructure and management expertise for its members to participate in meaningful and regular competitions for all ages, genders and levels of ability, which will be respectfully co-ordinated within the existing structures and schedules of FIFA, AFC and regional federations.
Our vision is to work with commercial partners, governments, federations and other interested parties and organisations to establish new football academies, training centres, coaching and referee schools, new competitions, tournaments and facilities for players of all ages, genders and levels of ability.
This will attract sponsors, broadcasters and other commercial bodies that will bring in valuable revenue streams.
Funds from new football events and commercial programs will be reinvested into football development programs to help grow the football sector and culture in member nations leading to a football environment that is both self-sufficient and fully transparent.
The first SWAFF General Assembly saw the confirmation and approval of the organisation’s statutes and regulations.
